Raves

So along with the frustrations of being a military wife there are some pretty good things that I have discovered as well. So the first of course is the health care coverage, it is all free as long as Adam is active duty. The dental is decent as well so that is nice as well. Recently we discovered the great gym there is on Miramar's base, they have great equipment and it is fairly new. They also provide personal training for free. In addition to all of that there is of course shopping on base which is tax free! I'm slowly getting used to going on base and finding my way around, it will take a little bit longer but eventually maybe I will feel like I belong.

On a different note, Adam and I are looking for a new place to move to, we are sick of living in El Cajon and would like to move to a better house than the one we find now. Hopefully we find something that we want to live in soon. I'm not opposed to waiting for fall since that is when we will know if I have a job or not. But if we find something that will be great either way than we will totally move to get out of this heat and get away from our dead backyard!

Rants

So last week we finally had the time to take me in to get my military ID. I only worked a short day on Wednesday so it was relatively easy especially since Adam knew where he was going. The challenging part came on Friday when we were trying to get me signed up for benefits. First of all I really think the military should give you some kind of information or pamphlet about adding a spouse because no one really knows anything. They just tell you to go to Balboa to get signed up for Tricare, well Balboa is a big place, and tricare is a little office. Finally we were able to find the office, and it didn't take very long to sign up. Basically I just had to pick a doctor off of a list, which was a bit unsettling since there was no time to do research on the doc but oh well. They also gave me an envelope full of information which was helpful. I still have to sign up for dental, which I have to do online, but at least I will be able to see a doctor after August 10th. Oh and something that I did find funny was the fact that they asked me if I need prenatal information since apparently a lot of people do need it!

Commissary and stuff

Last week Adam and I both had Wednesday off so we did our weekly grocery shopping at the commissary on 32nd street. While we were shopping I spotted the above picture. I couldn't believe that these children brought their dog into the store, and that their parents would let them! I thought it was completely unsanitary especially since they were carrying it around the food. Now don't get me wrong, I understand about service animals being allowed in stores to help out their owners but this is not a service dog. People need to understand where they can bring their pets. Just because it is small and they can carry it like a baby does not give them the right to bring it everywhere. I really should have reported it to someone at the commissary, but I didn't. I will next time though since it really is something that needs to be stopped before more people start bringing their pets!

A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On!

This evening as I was sitting peacefully watching "Bones" the house started shaking. I thought, ok another earthquake, the shaking didn't stop and the dogs started freaking out so we went outback until it stopped. Now, I've been a resident of California all my life and I am still not used to the shaking. It gives me anxiety and I just can't help but freak out a bit, especially since Adam is still gone. I've decided that we need to work on our emergency preparedness kit this weekend because the earthquakes keep coming, starting with the big one we had on Easter earlier this year. I think I would feel better if we had a kit and came up with a family plan. I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight, it's hard enough when Adam is gone and now this shaking makes it worse!!

On another note, I have several friends with blogs of which I am a devoted reader. This evening I read a post from one of my childhood friends and low and behold it was about my wedding. It had to do with the lack of single people at my wedding and how she became aware of her singleness. I did notice when I was planning on the seating chart at my wedding how there weren't many single people. I think I had one single guy and a handful of single girls. There would have been more if more of our friends had been able to make it. I just hope that everyone had a good time! More reflections on the wedding later...

First Time Without Him

So this evening is the first time Adam is gone in the field since we were married. It sucks that he is gone until Tuesday but since this will be happening about twice a month I better get used to it. I don't think I will be sleeping that well tonight, it's hard to sleep when he is not next to me. I do have the puppies to keep me company but I am trying to be strong and not let them sleep on the bed. For now, I let them on the couch with me, but that might have to change at some point.

I really need to work on making some more friends, that way I have people to hang out with when Adam is not around. Hibernating in the house doesn't seem like a good option, so I'll have to figure something out! I can't wait until Adam is officially in his command (right now he is still and instructor in training) Hopefully once he becomes an instructor we can socialize with the other couples at his command. He should be an instructor in the next month so we will have to see what happens! For now I will work on organizing the house and getting out all my thank you notes from the wedding! Keeping myself busy is better than sitting around missing my best friend!

Wife

So now that I have finally married Adam, my husband, I have changed my blog. I used to have a blog entitled frustrations of a military girlfriend and then military fiancee so now it is time for a fresh start.

We have been married now for two weeks, it doesn't really seem as if anything has changed since we have been living together basically as long as we have been together. Now we just have a lot of new things. We have been cleaning out the cupboards and getting rid of old things that have been replaced by our new things. It is kind of nice to purge and get a fresh start, especially since it means getting rid of all my 99 cent store purchases from college! We are still not finished yet but I have gotten through both bedrooms and the kitchen is coming along nicely. If I don't work tomorrow then I will be working on putting more stuff away. The only true question is what to do with the old stuff, try to sell it or just give it away? Time will tell. I might try to have a yard sale while Adam is in the field this weekend.

So I am not yet recognized as a military spouse simply because we had a problem with our license, one box was not filled out correctly so must be fixed, in writing, by the officiant. Hopefully it will be fixed next week that way I can get my ID and all that good stuff. I'm also waiting to get a second job until I have my name changed that way I have less paperwork for the future. So we will see when that works out.

Part of my hobbies are stalking people on facebook, friends and acquaintances from all periods of my life. I like to know what is going on. Anyways, so many people are engaged or have gotten engaged recently, it's just crazy. I've gotten really good at finding people's wedding websites too. So tonight I was looking for friends websites and managed to find a couple. So far for next year we have about four weddings to attend. The two websites that I found tonight are for weddings on the same day!!! I'm really hoping that one of them will change since both of them are really good friends of mine. One, Adam and I set the couple up and the other has been my friend since 7th grade. So we will see, I will keep my fingers crossed. That is all for now, I'm really going to be trying to post more frequently!! I'll be writing about our honeymoon soon!
