Frustrations of a Military Wife

Love
After thinking about my own life and looking at others around me I have to say that I believe that you are not meant to end up with your first love. It seems like the relationship that you have with your first love is passionate and destructive at the same time. I think it turns you into a person that you don't really want to be. In my experience I was 15 when I met my first love, it lasted for four years and turned me into one of those crazy girls. It made my emotions physically affect my body at times. If we had ended up together for the long run I think I would have had mental difficulties and I never would have trusted him. After moving away from our home town I dated several people as I finished college and then finally met my husband to be when I was 23. I think everyone needs to date and experience life before they can settle down into a marriage. Now, there are some cases of people marrying their high school sweethearts and end up being happily together forever. As time goes by and society changes I believe marrying your high school sweetheart will become a thing of the past since most people will now attend college, travel, and experience life which will change who they are. Those are just my thoughts on the subject...hopefully it makes sense.

I am...
such a bad blogger!!! Trying to find balance in my first year teaching and being a wife is a challenge. I will have to work harder to get my thoughts out. Frequently I think of blog posts but rarely have the time to sit and let it all come out!
So today my husband is away, he will return on Thursday, but I still miss him. Sometimes I feel guilty for missing my husband because he is not on deployment and I will always see him in five days or less but I can't help it. When we were dating and he was deployed I got into the routine of having him gone. Yes there are lonely and unbearable parts but eventually it is over and you get to see your loved one again. Now, he is on shore duty but what that really means is that he is home for ten days and then gone for five and that is constant. It is hard to have him gone during the week when I am also used to him being home. Does that make any sense? Sometimes when I have a rough day at work all I want is to come home and get a hug which is great when he is here and not so great when he is gone. However, I am grateful that he is in my life because I love him so much.
Hopefully tomorrow I will post my theory on finding love....

Rants and Realizations!
So it has been awhile since I have blogged and the reason for that is that I have gotten a long term sub job. I wish I could say that I got a full time job but hopefully that will be in the cards for next year. I am now teaching 2nd grade until December. My class is very talkative but I love them and want to do anything I can to help them learn. It's only been a few weeks of school, but I am already dreading having to say goodbye to them.
On another note, lets see, the military oh and the health care system. So I finally went to see my new doctor, nothing big, just a new patient visit. Need to go back soon for an actual exam, but anyways I got a prescription and had to get it filled. Filling it a military pharmacy is free so of course I chose that route. Anyways I went to fill it on base and found out that they only take new prescriptions before 3pm, which was wonder (sarcasm), since school doesn't get out for me until 3pm everyday. So I thought that was stupid and ended up going to Balboa to get it filled. So I arrive in the pharmacy, figure out that I need to take a number, and sit and wait. I get called and the lady goes to look me up but alas, I am not in the system. The reason for this is because you have to register to use the pharmacy, which no one tells you to do!!! Which is so frustrating. End of story, I got the prescription, but it took awhile. I just wish they would have this handbook that gave you the information that you needed instead of you trying to do something and finding out you need to do something else first. Communication is necessary!!!
I did however shop at the exchange this week and got a great purse for a great price! Found out that they carry the makeup I use as well. I can't wait until I actually have money and can go shopping there for a few things!
So, some time ago I do remember reading an article that talked about the stress of having a child on a marriage. I remember it said that you should be married at least 2 years before you conceive. What I don't understand is all this people, freshly married and young having babies before they even have a stable marriage. Especially if you are in the military. I just think it is silly and hope for the child's sake that they don't end up in a divorce court. Well that is all for now, sorry to be all over the place, just how my mind is working these days!

Settling In
Well we are finally moved into our new place in Spring Valley. Of course San Diego decided to have a heat wave the weekend we were moving so that made it no fun! I'm so happy to be done with our old house, it was so dark and had so many problems with it. Our new place is bright, has great views and is in a more country setting which makes it nice. I can't wait to get a glider and sit out on the front porch with a cold drink in my hand!
There is still a lot of unpacking to do, we are working on it day by day but it is getting there. Of course there are the few odd things that I can't seem to locate like my phone charger and the little metal things that go in the bookshelf to hold the shelves up. We were missing the printer cable but found that today so I do have hope of finding the other things.
On the friend front I have started a San Diego Navy Wives Meet up group on facebook. It seems like a lot of wives are bored, lonely and don't have any friends, especially those of us with no children. I'm trying to set up some activity every week so that we can hang out and get to know one another. It should be interesting because our first meet up is on Saturday and I'm not sure if anyone will show up so we will see.
On the work front, school starts in about two weeks for the district that I have been working for the past two years. There is still a chance that I may get picked up for a classroom but we will see. Tutoring is also starting to come together so I will be subbing and tutoring for now. Fingers are still crossed for something more permanent even though if I did get a classroom I would be lost at how to set it up since I haven't thought about things like that for a couple years!
On the marriage front, Adam and I have been married for three months now, and it has not all been a honeymoon. I think moving is a stressful time for any relationship and arguing about how to do things is natural so I am glad we are almost settled in! I do remember when we fist moved into a place together that we got into an argument about where his boots would "live", it seems funny to think about it now, I guess we live and learn!

Getting there
We are getting close to moving, I've finally started packing up the house. We got the dining room all packed up yesterday which was a challenge with all the breakable things. I'm hoping to get my curio cabinet done today which is also breakable stuff! I think the kitchen will be the hardest part, but I'm waiting on that since I have more cooking to do before we move.
I've also started a Navy wife group meet up on facebook, I'm hoping it will be a group that will meet up every week to hang out and have fun together. I probably should have waited until we moved before setting it up but oh well. San Diego is a hard place to make friends so hopefully this group will help some people.
That's all for today, off to more packing!

Updates
Today was my second trip going to the commissary by myself. The first time I went I have to admit I was a bit freaked out but this time I was prepared. I did learn that I should never go to the commissary the Sunday after payday because it is so busy! Today is the start date of my benefits so this week I will be calling to make Dr. and Dentist appointments which will be good since I haven't been to either one in a couple years.
On the job front I have been applying everywhere since school got out a week and a half ago. I did have an interview last week for a Kindergarten class but I didn't get the job. I think they really needed an experience teacher. It was however good experience as far as interviews go. I really need to decide what my teaching philosophy is, which I think will come in time. The only thing to do now is push on and keep my fingers crossed for a job opportunity.
On another note, we have found a place to move into and will be moving in on the 20th. We are very excited to get out of El Cajon and move to a hill in Spring Valley. Our new place has a great view all the way to the city and it gets ocean breezes! It has two bedrooms, central AC and heat, a fireplace, a dishwasher and a garage, which is something Adam has always wanted. My only concern is that I'm not sure if it has enough kitchen storage but we will find out! I'll post pictures once we are all moved in.

Raves
So along with the frustrations of being a military wife there are some pretty good things that I have discovered as well. So the first of course is the health care coverage, it is all free as long as Adam is active duty. The dental is decent as well so that is nice as well. Recently we discovered the great gym there is on Miramar's base, they have great equipment and it is fairly new. They also provide personal training for free. In addition to all of that there is of course shopping on base which is tax free! I'm slowly getting used to going on base and finding my way around, it will take a little bit longer but eventually maybe I will feel like I belong.
On a different note, Adam and I are looking for a new place to move to, we are sick of living in El Cajon and would like to move to a better house than the one we find now. Hopefully we find something that we want to live in soon. I'm not opposed to waiting for fall since that is when we will know if I have a job or not. But if we find something that will be great either way than we will totally move to get out of this heat and get away from our dead backyard!
